Profile
A Sun certified J2EE architect with experience of designing large enterprise web-based B2B and B2C applications. Worked for two years on GE's information management leadership programme with four 6 month placements in various European GE businesses. I then moved into a technical architect position within GE Money UK which I have held for 6 years. Good knowledge of GE Money systems and technologies, which focus on providing retailer-branded store cards, credit cards and loans both via systems running in retailer stores, GE call centres and on-line. Worked on design, development and testing for various large projects as well as providing technical consultancy for numerous other projects. Recently moved to work for the NHS connecting for health programme in Leeds.
Achievements
- Conceived, Designed and Developed the capability to add content management into several GE Money transactional web applications using an open-source content repository (Jackrabbit). This reduced the cost of rolling out new client brands in our web applications from £15k to approx. £1k per client brand.
- Technical Lead on eBusiness project to provide instant on-line credit decisions GE customers over the Internet. Worked with Analysts and the business to convert requirements into detailed technical specifications and work estimates. Managed a team of developers to build and test the solution that communicated with an IBM mainframe back-end system. The project was delivered on-time and within budget and won a Mastercard award for "Best Use of Technology".
- Integrated numerous anti-fraud systems into GE e-Business applications, including FMT Octopus, Bharosa, MaxMind Geolocation, Iovation Reputation Manager, Equifax EID Verifier.
- Implemented tools and processes to incorporate continuous integration and code quality controls into the development process. This was all done using open-source software (JUnit, HttpUnit, PMD, Findbugs, Subversion, Hudson).
- Developed a long-term strategy to consolidate multiple GE web based systems by moving to a service-oriented architecture based on an in-house developed SOA framework.
- Subject matter expert on GE IT new accounts systems. Provided consultancy on numerous projects, including providing technical designs and specifications where needed
- Installed and configured a clustered J2EE environment using Solaris servers running Sun web and application server software. Performance and high-availability tested the new environment using Mercury Load runner to ensure it could support critical new accounts applications for the GE call centres in Leeds and India.
- Acted as an employee representative during GE redundancy proceedings. Attended consultation meetings with employees and management to minimise the impact on employees while meeting business needs

- GE Money, Leeds, UK: Evaluated web hosting suppliers and came up with a strategy to switch the UK business to another supplier.
- GE Insurance Holdings, Shannon, Ireland: Rolled out web based project management system based on MS Project and project central.
- Penske Logistics, Amersfoort, Netherlands: Webmaster for Penske Logistics Europe. Developed numerous intranet workflow applications and a document repository system.
- GE Capital Bank, Zurich, Switzerland: Project managed work for enhancing online new accounts system. Ran a 6-sigma green-belt project to improve productivity of senior managers by using PDA devices.
