Profile
An experienced, Sun certified enterprise architect with experience of both designing large-scale enterprise applications and assuring designs from 3rd party suppliers. Worked for two years on GE's information management leadership programme with four 6 month placements in various European GE businesses. I then moved into a technical architect position within GE Money UK which I held for 6 years. Good knowledge of GE Money systems and technologies, which focus on providing retailer-branded store cards, credit cards and loans both via systems running in retailer stores, GE call centres and on-line. Worked on design, development and testing for various large projects as well as providing technical consultancy for numerous other projects. Subsequently moved to work for NHS Connecting For Health in Leeds as part of the £12.7 billion National Programme for IT in the NHS. Acted as a technical design authority across a wide portfolio of products delivered by CSC, assuring designs against CFH standards and strategic objectives, whilst also ensuring they met all the non-functional requirements of the NHS.
Experience
- Technical Architect within the NME (North, Midlands and East) team.
- Technical design assurance of all supplier design deliverables as part of the CSC LSP (Local Solution Provider) contract. This involves:
- Review design documents to ensure they are clear, complete and in line with CFH, National and Government standards, contractual requirements, CFH strategy and industry best practice
- Ensure designs meet all relevant non-functional requirements in order to ensure robust, secure solutions are delivered into the NHS
- Acting as a lead reviewer to co-ordinate the review of design documents with relevant parties within the NHS and CFH, ensuring feedback is clear and understood by all parties
- Helping non-technical reviewers to understand the content of design documents so they are able to provide meaningful review comments
- Escalating issues within CFH as required, and working closely with the supplier to agree pragmatic approaches where required to help facilitate delivery of solutions
- Working closely with testing teams to maintain alignment between design and test assurance activities and priorities
- Working with stakeholder groups to ensure compliance and alignment with business priorities, including groups such as:
- NHS Product Development Groups and Expert Reference Groups
- CFH National Programme teams
- CFH Standards groups (e.g. UKTC, Data Standards Team)
- NHS Standards groups (e.g. IC, ISB, NIGB)
- Department of Health teams
- Commercial teams
- Act as a CFH technical expert across a number of systems, and provide input into wider strategies involving these business areas. This includes an ambulance system, a strategic reporting solution, a system for providing care for the elderly, a GP system, a hospital patient administration system, an operating theatre management system and a child health system.
- Lead on delivery of “health and social care integration” (HSCI) functionality across NME systems, providing input into HSCI programme team and provide input and advice to pilot project teams
- Lead on delivery of discharge summary implementation across all NME systems working with other programmes and Technology Office teams to coordinate the approach.
- Provide and develop internal team task and issue tracking capabilities using Sharepoint and develop tools and processes to maximise the value of these tools to optimise team effectiveness
- Senior software/technical architect within the IT systems development team.
- Subject matter expert on e-Business and new accounts systems.
- Information Management Leadership Programme (IMLP) - 2 Year Graduate Programme, consisting of 4 six month placements:
- GE Money, Leeds, UK: Evaluated web hosting suppliers and came up with a strategy to switch the UK business to another supplier.
- GE Insurance Holdings, Shannon, Ireland: Rolled out web based project management system based on MS Project and project central.
- Penske Logistics, Amersfoort, Netherlands: Webmaster for Penske Logistics Europe. Developed numerous intranet workflow applications and a document repository system.
- GE Capital Bank, Zurich, Switzerland: Project managed work for enhancing online new accounts system. Ran a 6-sigma green-belt project to improve productivity of senior managers by using PDA devices.
- Conceived, Designed and Developed the capability to add content management into several GE Money transactional web applications using an open-source content repository (Jackrabbit). This reduced the cost of rolling out new client brands in our web applications from £15k to approx. £1k per client brand.
- Technical Lead on eBusiness project to provide instant on-line credit decisions GE customers over the Internet. Worked with Analysts and the business to convert requirements into detailed technical specifications and work estimates. Managed a team of developers to build and test the solution that communicated with an IBM mainframe back-end system. The project was delivered on-time and within budget and won a Mastercard award for "Best Use of Technology".
- Integrated numerous anti-fraud systems into GE e-Business applications, including FMT Octopus, Bharosa, MaxMind Geolocation, Iovation Reputation Manager, Equifax EID Verifier.
- Implemented tools and processes to incorporate continuous integration and code quality controls into the development process. This was all done using open-source software (JUnit, HttpUnit, PMD, Findbugs, Subversion, Hudson).
- Developed a long-term strategy to consolidate multiple GE web based systems by moving to a service-oriented architecture based on an in-house developed SOA framework.
- Subject matter expert on GE IT new accounts systems. Provided consultancy on numerous projects, including providing technical designs and specifications where needed
- Installed and configured a clustered J2EE environment using Solaris servers running Sun web and application server software. Performance and high-availability tested the new environment using Mercury Load runner to ensure it could support critical new accounts applications for the GE call centres in Leeds and India.
- Acted as an employee representative during GE redundancy proceedings. Attended consultation meetings with employees and management to minimise the impact on employees while meeting business needs

- Good understanding of the challenges of very large scale integration projects, including the development of interoperability standards to facilitate data flows across systems from multiple suppliers and systems
- Experience of managing offshore development teams in India, China and Hungary
